Reflections on our daily readings from the School Sisters of Notre Dame:

Sunday, June 27, 2010
Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

1 Kings 19: 16, 19-21; Psalm 16; Galatians 5: 1, 13-18; Luke 9: 51-62

Call and response is our theme today. God instructs Elijah to anoint Elisha as his successor and when he does, the two travel together as prophets. To read more of this reflection, and to access this week's reading, please Click here.

Homily Helper
Sunday July 4th
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Luke 10:1-12,17-20

We try to bring the implications of Luke's gospel to consciousness at a time when many people in the church seem to have lost hope. They are weary, intimidated by the power of secular culture, and often contentious with each other. To read the rest of Campion P. Gavaler, O.S.B.'s reflection on this reading, please, click here .

Michael Crosby, OFM, Cap, Dr. Darleen Pryda, PhD, Rev. Joseph Nagle, OFM, and former president of WTU, Rev. Vincent Cushing, OFM. Carmelite Conferences Keep Spirits Fresh!

At the end of May, WTU professor Fr. Leopold Glueckert gave a series of talks to the Discalced Carmelite Directors of Formation in Wichita, Kansas. This year’s program was the third of three consecutive summers, in which over 50 friars and cloistered nuns from all over North America came together for two weeks to study and enrich the formation programs for their own candidates and novices. Leopold was asked to present 5 lectures (of 2 hours each) on “How to teach Carmelite History and the Carmelite Rule,” including what content is most helpful for spiritual formation. Other lectures included analysis of the vows, psychological health, and study of the Carmelite classics.

Then, during the week of June 16-20, the Carmelite Forum and Carmelite Institute sponsored a wonderful conference “Carmel’s Quest for the Living God” at St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana. Workshops there were presented by WTU adjunct professor Patrick McMahon, O. Carm., as well as former WTU professors Steven Payne, OCD, and WTU Board of Trustees memberJack Welch, O.Carm. Featured speakers included Fernando Millán, O.Carm., Prior General, and former Discalced Superior General Camillo Maccise, OCD, as well as Ms Dolores Leckey, of the Woodstock Theological Center. Over 250 participants of every conceivable background took part in the conference. The Center for Spirituality at St. Mary’s has hosted this event for the past 25 years.
