Thanks to a gift from the Lilly Endowment, the Washington Theological Union was proud to welcome Dr. Wendy Wright as a Distinguished Scholar for our Doctor of Ministry Lecture Series. In her presentation, "The Visit: The Relational Mystery at the Heart of the Gospel," Dr. Wright focused on two of the great mysteries of the Gospel: that love is stronger than death, and that God is always with us. Theologically we see this in the incarnational and resurrection mysteries of Christ which we celebrate at Christmas and Easter. However, our liturgical calendar also reveals the mystery of God's constant presence in the times between Advent and Lent. The focus on God's relationship with us in ordinary time was the focus of Dr. Wright's July 15th presentation.
As an expert in Salesian Spirituality, Dr. Wright shared with the capacity audience the gift of St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal's "little virtues". By remembering gentleness, humility, cordiality, simplicity, patience, and charity in our daily lives Christians can convey God's love through our relationships with others.
