Welcome

"Come and See"
John 1:38

We are all here to build a community of faith, love, trust, and respect that will inspire and empower us all the days of our lives. A rich community of faith that not only recognizes and tolerates diversity, but one that learns to celebrate diversity as a God given gift. A gift that makes us richer and stronger and more attractive to the world because it reflects the races, genders, languages, and the nationalities of the people of God that we have been called to serve.

Washington Theological Union is an accredited, Roman Catholic graduate school of theology and ministry educating and forming candidates for the priesthood and other church ministries. The Union also welcomes students who seek to deepen their faith by expanding their theological and spiritual horizons. One of the largest Catholic graduate schools of theology and ministry in the country, the Union serves students from diverse backgrounds and traditions.

The Union's motto, freedom, faith, integrity, acknowledges that faith stands at the very heart of the school's mission. Theological education at the Union leads students to a deeper understanding of Revelation and a greater clarity of Christian wisdom, an understanding and clarity they will need as they minister in the Church of the 21st century.

The Union maintains working relationships with offices of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Archdiocese of Washington, and several interdenominational groups. An active partner in ecumenical education, Washington Theological Union is a cofounder of the Washington Theological Consortium, an educational and ecumenical enterprise of eleven Christian graduate schools of theology in the Washington and Richmond, Virginia areas. Union students may cross-register for courses in any of the Consortium schools.

Offering priesthood candidates, lay students, and experienced ministers on sabbatical an excellent faculty and a dynamic, collaborative environment, the Union seeks to form ministers who are knowledgeable, prayerful, and committed.

The Union offers four graduate degrees:
